Today we want to talk about the most pressing topic in testing training — the process of getting your first job as a tester. Of course, you'd like to get information from those who are currently looking for work, not from our teachers who have been working for many years, since the market structure is constantly changing.
To share the experience with other students, we asked one of our graduates, who recently completed the course and is already working in a new specialty.
Today we will be talking to Tambovsky Sergey. He completed our course in 2017. He spent less than two months on the entire course and earned 564 points or 87%. That is an excellent result.

Sergey, tell us a bit about yourself and how the training went for you.
Sergey:
My conscious life has always been connected with computers. Sometimes I did side jobs repairing, configuring, and building systems. I wanted more. I finished courses on HTML/CSS, JS, PHP, but the knowledge I gained was definitely not enough. Moreover, all these courses didn't make me a specialist ready for work, but only expanded my horizons. One day I came across the site qaacademy.net and decided to try my hand at being a tester. The material was new and interesting, and most importantly, there was a lot of practice in this course. The teacher was very meticulous about mistakes, sometimes nitpicking :), but always explained things in a dead-end situation. After about one and a half months the courses ended and an urgent question arose about applying the gained knowledge and skills.

Tell me, how did the search for the first job go?
Sergey:
On the last level I made a resume, not without the help of the Teacher, which turned out to be quite challenging for me. I posted it everywhere I could, sent my resume to all companies I came across. At the same time, I was working on freelance (some platforms were mentioned in the course, others I found on my own). Companies were sending rejections. A few times they conducted interviews, but due to lack of experience and low level of English language knowledge they rejected me. But my will is strong and the desire to work in IT turned out to be enough to not give up and keep trying.

All pass through these trials, but straight to the stars. When searching for a job, the most important thing is not to stop, but to continue seeking, and at the same time self-perfect and stay in the IT trend. Sergey:
About nine months after I finished the course and started sending out my resume, I got a call (as strange as it may sound) and was offered to take a Skype interview. The conversation lasted no more than 15 minutes, but during that time I had to answer a lot of questions about testing, mostly theoretical. Fortunately, I was already prepared for such questions after the exam, which also took the form of an interview. Then came a week of waiting and timid hopes, and then on Saturday they called and invited me to start work on Monday, which is exactly what I was waiting for.

It's very pleasant to hear that hard work ends with fair success. Tell me a bit about your current work.
Sergey:
Right now I'm working in an office at a company developing CRM system. Everything is fine, but I definitely need to improve my English. The knowledge I've gained from Galaxy QA Academy was enough to handle the tasks set without any problems. I'm also studying automation testing, which is in high demand right now, as well as the Java programming language.
