Today I want to tell a story about how I found myself in testing. Perhaps there are people looking for themselves in testing and will find my story interesting.
Internship
I started my career in IT in 2011. My first job was an internship at the IT company Mteye Security in the position of technical writer. I had a decent English level (intermediate), so I spent my time writing user guides for alarm systems, making presentations and other text-related work. There, I first got to know testing. I tested hardware — new wireless alarm devices. Although, in essence, I was working for food. My compensation was a small internship stipend plus travel expenses, lunch, and sandwiches after six. For a former student, it was a decent option, since the main thing for a student is not to be hungry. And this company fully met my needs. I finished the internship after about five months and left the place with my head held high, a recommendation letter, and an alarm system as a gift. I didn’t stay, because to move into a permanent position, they wanted to keep me as an intern for another half a year. And when you're young, half a year seems like the time to do everything in life — and that's exactly what it is.
First Job in IT
Having a recommendation letter and a stash of examples of my work and others, I started looking for a job. And within 1-2 months, I managed to find a position at a major bank. The work was sometimes routine, but incredibly nerve-wracking. My boss was a widely known despot in certain circles, I won't mention his name. In general, girls often came out of his office in tears, and everyone else too. He addressed everyone formally but would say, "Go do it as you would on ***** with this mock-up." And he loved firing people, it was his hobby. For terminations, they usually had an entire team of newbies to send out when needed. So day after day, I puffed like a hamster on a wheel, sometimes working 12 hours a day, and the job came to me in my dreams.
How I Was Fired as a Tester
This is a separate story worthy of respect and memory among the grandchildren. Once upon a time, when I finished an interactive iBook for iPad, I brought it to him for checking. And the boss had a bad mood, and I was, imagine that! In a red sweater, and brought the book with a red button on the page, for which, by the way, I was immediately fired. They said it was inspired by your design, your red sweater, and you had absolutely no designer taste. So I was fired, but not just fired, but disgraced and transferred to testing.
